i had a nice chunk of kale left over from the barley soup, and so i thought i'd try kale chips.
they are like potato chips, but different.
because, instead of potatoes, its kale.
like this:
and then i added a little olive oil, some fresh lemon juice, and some sea salt:
and i "massaged it." its an odd feeling, massaging kale. as if i'm doing something i'm not supposed to. we won't go further than that.
then, i put them on an oiled baking sheet, and into a pre-heated, 300 degree oven for around half an hour (i should mention i turned them once). they went into the oven looking like this:
and came out like this:
let's go in for a closer look look, shall we...
in the end - i definitely liked these. i am making this statement based on the fact that i can't stop eating them. they are light and crunchy and have a nice tang, and you can't make any arguments against nutritional value. the only thing i think i need to remember for next time is to make sure the kale pieces are all uniform in size. some of the smaller ones were almost too crispy and a bit bitter, while some of the larger ones didn't crisp enough and still resembled "raw kale chips," which taste suspiciously like salad. i only know this because i tasted it pre-oven.
also, i wonder if some cheese (or nutritional yeast, if you swing that way), might be good on this...
kale chips: little. green. different.
